It is celebrated each year on the first Saturday in June. This year we celebrate International Trails Day on June 4, 2011.
Interest is growing world wide, and international trail groups are promoting events in their own countries. We invite and encourage the public and the world's trail groups to celebrate and help develop an awareness of trails by posting events in their communities to this site. If you have an event you would like to post, please email the details and your contact information to NS Trails: nstrails@sportnovascotia.ca.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~

Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Rails to Trails

Family Fun Day - Everyone Welcome

Satruday, June 4th - 10:00 am

Bikers start a 25 km ride at the trailhead by the cola plant in Lakeside Industrial Park to the end of the trail and back to km 5.

Walkers, Runners & Nordic Walkers start a 5 km trip at the trailhead or at Lake of the Woods to km 5. Same as above – lovely scenery, picnic shelter, washrooms. There is even a small beachy area where children are known to splash along the shoreline of Bayer Lake.

Hiking Ideas: There’s lots to chose from: Bayer Lake Loop (Level 1); Admiral Lake Loop (Level 2-3) and demanding Wilderness hiking trails. I am reminded this will be the 5th year the Ramblers have participated.

It is a fun ride, open to Ramblers, guests, including children (must be with parents to supervise). There will be a (free, thanks to the Bike Week Committee) BBQ - hamburgers and veggie burgers as well as soft drinks at rides end, along with bike prizes.

We will meet at 9:45, in the Mariposa parking lot, across from the Irving (washrooms) which is also at the intersection of the # 333 (road to Peggy's Cove) and the # 3 highway, This is located about 400 meters from the Bike & Bean, on the Halifax side. We ask you NOT to park at the Bike & Bean, as this ties up their limited parking over lunch hour - thank you for your consideration.

We will depart at 10am and head towards Hubbards. Each of us will bike at a pace that is comfortable for ourselves. You may return at any time (when you are half tired - ha), or no later than 1 hour and 15 minutes into the ride. In this way we will all be back between 12 and 12:30, our staggered arrival will help the chefs keep up with the demand of "starving" bicyclists. We will also have lots of draw prizes.

Rambler Terry Norman, will serve as your EC for the day. Terry of course has extensive knowledge on the trails of NS, as well as all Canada, having presided over NS Trails for a decade and the past two year with the Canadian Trails Coalition. Terry will also have two friends / guests on the ride - Wendy and Hal Hickey from BC. Wendy and Hal are recently retired, and have started a major bike trip across Canada, using trails only, when available. As I type, they have completed Newfoundland and Cape Breton, and are between Harbour Bouche and Antigonish. Please be sure to extend a hearty Rambler welcome to Hal and Wendy - such fun!

Terry made the following footnote:

"By the way, Hal Hickey has a blog where he posts the highlights from each day of their journey. You can access it at http://www.amicanadian.ca/ "

This ride is doable by all Ramblers - bring a guest or two - the more the merrier! This is a great trail and a fun event.

See you on Saturday and HAPPY BIKE WEEK and IT DAY

Bob White,
Prez, NS Ramblers.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~

NSORRA

GRAND RE-OPENING -
Hiltz Road Family Riding Park

Friday, June 3 & 4

Come join NSORRA for the re-opening of the Hiltz Road Family Ride Park. The park now includes a kids riding area next to the parking area so that parents can supervise their children more easily. The events will include trail maintenance Friday June 3 with a barbeque in the evening sponsored by NSORRA and of course trail rides. Friday evening there will be camping on site, no services.

Saturday, International Trails Day, may include some maintenance in the morning with more riding all day.

Bring the kids and have some fun!

More details and directions to follow.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~

McNabs & Lawler Islands Beach Cleanup

Sunday, June 5th - 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

(Rain Date: June 12th)

Help the Friends of McNabs Island Society cleanup McNabs and Lawlor Islands Provincial Park on World Environment day!

Location: Meet at Murphy's on the Water, Cable Wharf, on the Halifax Waterfront before 10:00 am Space on the boat is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

Bring: work gloves, drinking water, a lunch and ENTHUSIASM. It is celebrated each year on the first Saturday in June. This year we celebrate International Trails Day on June 5, 2010.

2010 INTERNATIONAL TRAILS DAY EVENTS
NOVA SCOTIA

MEC invites you to the 2nd Annual Bikefest - June 6th, 2010 11:00am – 3:00pm - Central Commons (near playground), Halifax

Last year’s event was a huge success and we would like you to help celebrate cycling with us. It takes place each year on the first Saturday in June.

To join in this worldwide celebration, the board members of the Woodens River Watershed Environmental Organisation (WRWEO) invite hikers and walkers in our community to hike a loop or two of The Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail system on Saturday June 5th 2010. Why not participate in International Trails Day by hiking one of the newly marked, easy-to-follow wilderness trails and experience the pristine natural beauty of a few hours on The Bluff Trail, named one of the best eight urban escapes in Canada by the prestigious magazine, Explore: Canada’s Outdoor Magazine?

Weather permitting, a WRWEO volunteer will be available from 9-11 am to greet hikers at The Bluff Trailhead with maps of the trail system and to answer any relevant questions about hiking in the area.

For directions to The Bluff Trail parking lot, the trailhead and a detailed description of the trail system, go to http://www.wrweo.ca/ and click on Bluff Trail. Park at the community parking lot or other public spot and be careful not to adversely effect small businesses by taking prized customer parking. This will be a very social, relaxed paced ride and will showcase the Ramblers and SMB trail Groups to the public.

June 5th is International Trails Day and the St. Margaret’s Area Bay Rails to Trails Association is encouraging everyone to get out and enjoy the trail with your friends & family. Ramblers Bicycle Club will be having an open barbeque for all to enjoy just west of the Bike and Bean off the trail in Tantallon at the Trolley House Stables from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. (signage will be post on the trail).

The N.S. Ramblers Bicycle Club has organized a bicycle ride starting from the Parking Lot on Highway #3 across from Peggy’s Cove Road (beside the Mariposa).
